Dhaka filmfest to host ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’

‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ is to attend the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Iran-Afghan-France award-winning feature film ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ has been set to attend the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Directed by Sahra Karimi, the film will be in competition at the Asian Film Competition section of the 18th edition of the Bangladeshi film event.

As the name of this movie suggests, it is a narrative of three women’s lives. All these women are from different walks of life. They all reside in Afghanistan after a devastating war.

Hava is an expecting mother. Maryam is an educated news anchor living with an unfaithful husband. Ayesha is a teenager from a traditional family who is scared of her destiny to be having an arranged marriage just like her mother’s. The three decide to take control of their lives and change their fate.

Not only the film narrates a feminine story, but also it has some famous female cast members. Katayoun Shahabi, the film producer and Mastaneh Mohajer, the film editor, are two of such women who come from Iran.

Karimi, the Afghan female film director of the flick, took her first steps as an artist in Iran with filmmakers’ works such as Hamid Jebeli’s ‘White Dream’. She then moved abroad to study cinema and filmmaking.

Besides being planned to screen in California, China, Turkey and Slovakia, ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ is currently in local theaters.

Established in 1992, the Dhaka International Film Festival is a biennial film festival in Bangladesh.

This edition of the event is slated for January 11-19, 2020.
